Muslim Marriage Registration (Nikah)
A traditional Nikah performed by a Qazi is recognized under Muslim Personal Law. However, to obtain a legally valid marriage certificate for purposes like applying for a passport, visa, or joint bank account, the marriage must be formally registered in the Delhi District Courts.
Eligibility Requirements
To register a Muslim marriage legally in Delhi, the following criteria must be met:
- Age Limit: The groom must be at least 21 years old, and the bride must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid Nikahnama: You must possess a valid Nikahnama issued by the Qazi who performed the ceremony.
- Jurisdiction: Either the marriage took place in Delhi, or one of the partners has address proof in Delhi.
Required Documents for Registration
Our advocates will prepare your file for the Registrar. You must provide:
- Original Nikahnama (with an English/Hindi translation if it is in Urdu).
- Aadhaar Card and PAN Card of both parties.
- Proof of Date of Birth (10th Marksheet or Passport).
- Address Proof of both parties.
- Passport-size photographs (6 copies each) and wedding photos.
- Two witnesses with valid ID proofs.
